A new club, especially designed for students, has been established on Bridge Base Online (BBO): the University Bridge Room.
All students are welcome to the online tournaments held every Wednesday at 20.00 hrs and Sunday at 15.00 hrs CET (Central European Time).
After a successful first 'University Pairs Championship' on Sunday 12 August 2007 with more then 130 pairs participating, the University Bridge Club will be holding a 'University Bridge Pairs' competition every second Sunday of each month, starting at 19.00 hrs CET. 20 boards will be played.
1st Online University Bridge Cup
The first online University Bridge Cup was held in 2009-10, with the participation of 16 teams from four continents. It was a knock out competition with rounds of 32 boards, played on BBO between student teams. Italy won the final against Norway.
2nd Online University Bridge Cup
The second online University Bridge Cup is scheduled to start in the autumn 2010. Entries are expected by the end of October, and matches will start in November 2010.
Similarly to the first edition, this is a knockout competition of student teams played on internet, with the schedule of play determined by a draw. Each country may enter an unlimited number of teams, composed of 4-6 university students or school pupils and a captain. All players must be between 17 and 28 years old, and have the nationality of the country they represent.
Once the organizers team up two teams, the captains need to play a match of 32 boards and submit the result within one month. Results will be posted at www.unibridge.org, as well as at the Facebook account 'Uni Bridge'.
